2. Carmine Legrand hired investigators from the Continental Detective Agency. Being a fan of hard-boiled fiction, you already know that’s the agency Dashiell Hammett’s unnamed “Continental Op” worked for.

3. I lifted the idea of the scar on the wrong cheek from the 1948 movie Hollow Triumph, reissued in the US as The Scar.
